A full keratin treatment typically takes 2-4 hours, depending on your hair length, thickness, and condition. This includes consultation, application, processing time, blow-drying, and flat ironing. Nanoplasty treatments may take slightly longer (3-5 hours) due to the more intensive process. I always allocate enough time to ensure perfect results without rushing.
I exclusively use formaldehyde-free keratin treatments that are safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Traditional keratin treatments containing formaldehyde should be avoided during pregnancy. However, my modern, formaldehyde-free formulas pose no risk to you or your baby. Many of my clients continue their treatments throughout pregnancy with their doctor's approval. Always consult your healthcare provider first.
With traditional keratin treatments, you should wait 72 hours (3 days) before washing your hair. This allows the keratin to fully bond with your hair. During this time, avoid getting your hair wet, using hair ties, or tucking hair behind your ears. With nanoplasty treatments, you can wash your hair within 24 hours. I'll provide detailed aftercare instructions specific to your treatment.
Traditional keratin treatments last 3-5 months on average, while nanoplasty can last 5-7 months. Longevity depends on your hair type, aftercare routine, and how often you wash your hair. Using sulfate-free shampoos, avoiding chlorine, and minimizing heat styling will help extend your results. Many Gold Coast clients find their treatments last longer due to our consistent climate.
Yes! I recommend coloring your hair 1-2 weeks before your keratin treatment for best results. The keratin will actually help seal in your color and make it last longer. If you want to color after treatment, wait at least 2 weeks. Highlights and balayage work beautifully with keratin treatments. Avoid box dyes, as they can react unpredictably with keratin.
No! When done correctly with quality products, keratin treatments actually improve hair health. The treatment fills in gaps in damaged hair cuticles, adds protein, and creates a protective layer. However, over-processing or using low-quality products can cause damage. That's why I only use premium, formaldehyde-free formulas and never apply heat higher than necessary. Your hair will be healthier after treatment.
This depends on the treatment type and your preference! Traditional keratin reduces frizz and smooths hair while maintaining some natural movement and volume. If you want pin-straight hair, I can achieve that too. Nanoplasty gives more straightening power (up to 90% volume reduction). During your consultation, we'll discuss your desired results and I'll customize the treatment accordingly.
After the initial waiting period (72 hours for keratin, 24 hours for nanoplasty), yes! One of the benefits of keratin is that it protects your hair from salt water and chlorine. However, always rinse your hair with fresh water before swimming and use a leave-in conditioner. Chlorine can gradually break down the treatment, so pool swimmers should consider more frequent touch-ups every 3-4 months instead of 5-6 months.
Keratin treatments coat the hair shaft with protein to smooth and protect, reducing frizz by 60-80%. Nanoplasty uses nanotechnology to penetrate deeper into the hair cortex, repairing damage from within and reducing volume by 80-95%. Nanoplasty lasts longer (5-7 months vs 3-5 months), allows same-day washing, and provides more intense straightening. It's ideal for very damaged hair or those wanting maximum smoothness. Keratin is better for maintaining natural texture with less frizz.
Treatment costs vary based on your hair length, thickness, and the type of treatment. Traditional keratin treatments typically range from $250-$450, while nanoplasty ranges from $350-$600. The investment includes premium products, professional expertise, and results that last months. During your free consultation, I'll assess your hair and provide an exact quote. I also offer package deals for clients who want regular treatments.
Use sulfate-free, keratin-safe shampoos and conditioners to extend your treatment. Sulfates strip the keratin coating, causing it to fade faster. I recommend gentle, moisturizing formulas and avoiding clarifying shampoos. Use a heat protectant if you style with hot tools, though you'll need much less heat than before. I can recommend specific products during your appointment or you can purchase my recommended professional products.
Absolutely! Keratin works beautifully on colored and bleached hair. In fact, it helps repair damage from chemical treatments and makes your color last longer by sealing the hair cuticle. If your hair is very damaged from bleaching, nanoplasty might be the better option as it provides deeper repair. Very fresh bleach (within 1 week) should be avoided, but hair that's been bleached for 2+ weeks is perfect for keratin treatment.
Very few people can't have keratin treatment. You should avoid it if you have a known allergy to any ingredients (though formaldehyde-free formulas are very gentle). If you have extremely fragile hair that breaks when dry, we might need to do a strengthening treatment first. Very short hair (less than 2 inches) won't see dramatic results. If you're undergoing chemotherapy, it's best to wait until treatment is complete. During consultation, I'll assess whether keratin is right for you.
Yes, keratin treatments are temporary and your hair will gradually return to its natural state as the treatment wears off. This happens slowly over 3-7 months depending on the treatment type. Your hair won't be damaged or altered permanently - it simply returns to normal. Many clients appreciate this because it means they can try the treatment without permanent commitment. The gradual fade also means you don't have a harsh line of demarcation.
For traditional keratin, avoid hair ties, clips, and tucking hair behind your ears for the first 72 hours. Any dents or kinks will become permanent in the keratin coating during this setting period. After 72 hours, you can style your hair however you like! With nanoplasty, you typically only need to wait 24 hours. Once the setting period is complete, your hair is completely stable and you can style it freely without worry.
